When I first read about the GAME plan process I thought it would be very time consuming and another item to add to my overflowing plate. I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the process helped me organize my thoughts and the direction I wanted my lessons to go. It also gave me the opportunity to revisit my plan and revamp it if I needed to.
Using the GAME plan process with my students helps them to become self-directed learners. They become responsible to take a closer look at their own learning. It gives them the skills to learn how to synthesize information and develop a way to track their own progress. It will also give students ownership of their learning environment. Teaching this process will take time but the end result will be to benefit both the teacher and students. I have really enjoyed reading everyone’s GAME Plan and I hope you are able to successfully infuse it into your classroom.
Dawn,
ReplyDeleteI also kind of felt the process was just another "thing" to add on but in the end I believe that it will help me to be a better teacher. I will be able to set goals and follow through with them which is sometimes a problem with everything going on in my classroom. I have a lot of good intentions and they just don't get completed. The GAME plan process will allow me to model for my students how to be a self-directed learner.

Hi Dawn,
ReplyDeleteI think that everyone has a process in which we reorganize our thnking to reach a particular goal. The GAME plan is an excellent way to train students to proceed forward when things get tough.

Dawn-
ReplyDeleteI also liked how the plan helped organize my thoughts and bring the goal setting to a workable plan. I am excited about using this with my students and am finding it to be workable for 'adding one more thing' to an already overflowing classroom.

Hello Dawn. I must agree with you that using the GAME plan for myself seemed like it may be too time consuming. But, I actually found that it is a useful strategy. Establsing a GAME plan helped me to maintain the concept of staying goal oriented and reflecting/adjusting the plan based upon the progress I was making. I find this strategy to be very applicable to my life and career.
ReplyDeleteFor students, I fully agree with you that this strategy reinforces making students more independent and in charge of their own learning.
I think you are correct that it is important to teach this process. I think if we use it correctly and allow the students to develop GAME plans throughout the year, it will be something they carry with them. Not only will the GAME plan benefit our students in our classrooms, but it can be a tool that they use throughout their education. After using it, I kind of wish I had known about the process during my undergrad years.
